Hi,I am Dr. Robert Galamaga (Hematologist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I visited a doctor on 09/12 and had an ingrown hair that was infected and needed to be drained I was told this was in result of strep infection. My lab results showed that my Eosinophils was a 0.43 and I had the same test done on 09/17 and it s now higher showing 0.45. I had my wound checked on Wednesday 09/17 and there are no obvious signs of it still being infected. It is actually healing. She has not prescribed an antibiotic because she feels that my fevers are caused from stress. I was hoping you could please offer some advise.
Hello and welcome to HCM, The normal range of eosinophils is from 1 to 6 per 100 white blood cells. Thus, 0.43 or 0.45 eosinophils is normal and nothing to worry. Ingrown hair has lead to bacterial infection, however, the infection has resolved and healed thus there is nothing to worry. Bacterial infections associated with ingrown hair can lead to fever and high levels of neutrophils in blood and not eosinophils. Eosinophils increase in case of allergies and parasitic infections. In the meanwhile, you can take anti-pyeretic (fever lowering drugs).
