Hi,I am Dr. Andrew Rynne (Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
On my latest blood work I have an MPV of 6.7. I have had vitiligo for years. I am 63 and in overall good health. I have been noticing in the past few months that minor cuts have taken a really long time before the scabs fully disappear. Any suggestions on what is going on?
Hi, Thanks for asking. Based on your query, my opinion is as follows. 1. Reduced MPV alone is not important. In relation to platelet count, it needs to be interpreted. If platelet count is low, MPV can be low. 2. If you are on anti platelet therapy or anticoagulation therapy, MPV can be low. Low MPV with normal platelet count has no significance, unless there are any bleeding episodes. 3. Scab formation or wound healing would take longer in elderly due to malnutrition, reduced vascularity and slow collagen formation. It is not related to platelet. Hope it helps. Any further queries, happy to help again.
