What Does 'RPR Of Non Reactive And FTA Of Reactive' In Case Of Syphilis Suggest?
hello.. i recently had sti test done and the syphilis portion of the came back with a RPR of non reactive and a FTA of reactive. my doctor ordered another test and the VDRL cam back non reactive and the FTA reactive. I dont think I have ever had syphilis and really dont have any sypmtoms. I have been refered to a ID doctor but trying to get an appointment this week has proven diffcult. Not sure what this all means, and no one has really been able to tell me.

Hi, Going through the report gives confusing details. RPR and VDRL are usually the screening tests and FTA is usually used as a confirmatory test. FTA alone if reactive could be false positive like in autoimmune diseases. However, if you have any syphilis symptoms particularly related to the cardiovascular system or neurological system, do get it repeated after two weeks for reconfirmation. Discuss with your doctor. Any further queries, happy to help you again.
