What Does A Distended Fetal Urinary Bladder In A Baby Mean?
what does a distended fetel urinary bladder in babies mean? I'm 14 weeks pregnant and was told in my 12 week scan it was distended at 7.6mm AP which was considered at the upper limits of normal. They said not too worry, but i can't stop worrying. Thanks.
it's not the fetal ( baby in d womb) urinary bladder but it's pelviuretric junction that is dialated to 7.6 mm in ap diameter. that means there maybe some obstruction to urine just after it leaves d kidney i.e. pelvi (last part of d kidney) uretric (tube joining kidney to the urinary bladder) junction . since in ur case is marginally dilated u need not worry as if it was more dilated then that would have meant there was more obstruction to urine suggesting more problem. but when they say borderline dilatation that suggests baby is able to propel the urine to its final destinations i.e. urinary bladder and followed by urethra out into the water bag surrounding d baby. many instances it remains borderline until d delivery n causes no problem to d baby in future life also..in v v rare cases only it advances to more severe forms which needs further intervention.u just need to follow up by repeat ultrasound scans which vil tell u whether it's increaseing or not.. just stop worrying as ur doctors r suggesting coz common is always more common than rare. so why worry abt something that is most probably not going to happen.just be positive n enjoy ur pregnancy.
