Hello, You may have an irritation that needs time to heal by avoiding all irritants. This includes alcohol, smoking, acidic foods and making sure that you are well hydrated. Balanced vitamins including B12 are recommended. Products which reduce coughing such as throat longezes or dextromethophan HBr may help reduce your symptoms. Any swelling or redness may benefit from Antiinflammitory medication such as Tylenol or Motrin. There are prescription rinses that can decrease your discomfort while healing as well. Your body often produces mucous to help coat the throat while trying to heal and causes a cough, gagging or choking reaction. You should try to determine the cause. Consider acid reflux, post nasal drip, snoring, mouth breathing, dehydration often due to dry heat, etc. These are conditions that you can try to control and find relief. A growth, polyp, tumor or infection is possible. See your physician if condition worsens or persists. An endoscopy is a diagnostic test that includes a visual exam of your throat and thorough evaluation for a correct diagnosis. Thank you for your inquiry.
