What Does A Lump On The Shin Indicate?

I have a bump on my shin bone that has grown over the last three months. It is red/purple in color and tonight it is sore to the touch and my leg and foot is swelling. Had an ultra sound done and ruled out cancer. My dr put me on an antibiotic and has not help. I have been doing a heating pad at night which somewhat helps but not much.
