What Does A Open Sore Behind The Ear Indicate?

My daugther has an open sore about the size of a quarter on the back of her ear, near the crease where the ear and the head meet. She says it hurts and keeps touching it. No other symptoms, no fever, no swelling. She hasnt used any headbands that could have rubbed it. Any suggestions on what it could be?
