What Does A Painful Lump On The Head Indicate?

Hi I had a boil on the side of my head. It was painful earlier until I started applying Soframycin on it. The pain is gone but the lump still exists and it’s not even red, it’s just white and big. I’ve been applying soframycin but the lump still hasn’t disappeared. What’s the next step that I should take?
