Hello Dr. I have had a pimple around my groin area for the past couple of weeks. It followed directly after shaving, I ve seen a dermatologist and she had no answers. Is there anything I can do to get rid of this? I do go to college in the north and so therefore am constantly bundled up, which I know affects sensitive areas such as the groin. What can I do? Im very stressed out
Folliculitis is a bacterial infection of the hair follicle and is quite common in the groin area. It comes as a painful pimple which could discharge pus. You can treat it with an antibiotic cream like 2% Mupirocin applied twice a day for 5- 7 days. If it recurs, you may need a course of oral antibiotics.
Molluscum contagiosum is a viral infection and in the groin area, it is usually sexually transmitted. It is painless and looks pearly white. It has to be manually extracted by a dermatologist.
Hope this helps you.
Take care.
