What Does A Raised Red Rash On The Ankle Indicate?

I have what I thought was an insect bite on my lower left leg near the ankle. I can provide a photo. It is the size of a nickel, red, raised, pealing skins in the center, no pain, no itch. It seemed to be healing with a cortisone cream, but is’s getting worse. I will make appt. with my primary tomorrow, but wondered if you have an idea what it may be. Hank you.

Hi,

It could most probably an insect bite hypersensitivity reaction. You could take an antihistamine tablet and apply a steroid cream combined with antibiotic. If your symptoms do not improve with the treatment for a week, I request you to consult your dermatologist for further management.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Siva Subramanian, Dermatologist
