What Does A Red Bump In The Throat Indicate?

Hello, I was going about my day normally when I suddenly felt like something was caught in my throat. Naturally I took a drink, coughed, swallowed hard, cleared my throat, etc. but nothing helped. I decided to look in my throat with a flashlight and mirror to see if I could identify the problem, when suddenly I saw this fleshy, red bump on the left side of my throat, right beside my Uvula. It doesn t hurt, apart from my throat being sore when I cleared it roughly, but it s uncomfortable for the fact that I can t swallow it at all. I ve never noticed the bump before, and never felt discomfort until minutes ago

Internal Medicine Specialist 's  Response
Hi,

The bump may be tonsillitis or a local erythema or acid reflux or pharyngitis etc.

Until examination is done it is difficult to say what it is. Avoid cool drinks and cold water. Avoid smoking and caffeine drinks.

Use water vapor inhalation and do salt water gargling thrice a day for five days. Use tablet Amoxiclav. If symptoms not improved please consult your doctor, he will examine and treat you accordingly.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

General Surgeon Dr. Shinas Hussain's  Response
Hi,

It might be an inflamed tonsil. You can consult a GP and start on a short course of antibiotics for symptomatic relief. Do warm saline gargles and can take analgesics like Acetaminophen for pain.
If symptoms persist. better to consult an ENT specialist and get evaluated.
