What Does A Spot On The Groin Indicate?

I think I have an abscess on my groin, but I'm not 100% sure. Is there a way of telling if I have and whatever it is, it's only the size of a spot at the moment, so it's not fully developed. How can I get rid of it without going to the doctors? Can I still wash it with soap? Could it be just a spot?
