Hi,
First and foremost, inhaling through the mouth is 'unnatural'. The nose is preferentially used for taking in breaths and also for expelling, though some amount of breathing out through the mouth occurs during exertion or exercise. Also, 'wheeze' is a term reserved for the (strained) sound of 'breathing out' through the lower airways, namely trachea and bronchi, and usually happens in certain conditions such as
asthma, which restricts the rate of exhalation.
Therefore, from what I can figure out from your description, is that you are probably practicing 'deep breathing' (albeit incorrectly through your mouth) as a means to relieving
stress or
anxiety (or wrongfully advised by fitness and
yoga teachers perhaps). This in turn is causing the throat to become dry and cause a 'sticky' feeling, and then forcing you to 'clear your throat'.
The other possibility is the presence of
acid reflux which might cause the same stickiness in the throat and also some amount of 'wet' sounds, and occasionally some harsh sounds too resembling a wheeze. Reflux may be caused by a variety of reasons, though stress and the 'fear of cancer' may also contribute.
I would suggest that you stop worrying for the time being, focus on deep or regular breathing through your nose, stay well hydrated, consume healthy foods and avoid alcohol and an excess of caffeinated drinks, and engage in light exercise/meditation/yoga that normalizes your breathing.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
