What Does Abdominal Pain And Difficulty In Breathing In Upright Position After A Fall Indicate?

My 90 year old mom fell hard backwards onto her back/bum/head. No broken bones, but three weeks later the middle of her torso (back around to front) is painful and she finds it a little hard to breath unless she lays down. Could this be a diaphram rupture?

Hello
Thank You for contacting HCM.

No this could not be rupture of diaphragm. Diaphragm is a very strong muscle. This could be due to muscular spasm or some serious condition like hemothorax. I would recommend you to take her to ER where doctors will perform chest Xray which will show if there is any serious pathology in chest or simple muscular spasm.

Hope this answers your question. If you have additional questions or follow
up questions then please do not hesitate in writing to us.
Wishing her good health.
