What Does Ammonia Smelling Stool In A Child Indicate?

Hi my 2 year old daughter s poop has smelt like ammonia since Monday. Her diet has remained the same and she is drinking fluids. I have no clue what is wrong and am very concerned. She has been a bit fussier than normal these past few days.... please help. Thanks

Thanks for the query.
Ammonia smelling stools can be attributed to bacteria overgrowth or nitrogen being insufficiently digested or improperly metabolized. When food is insufficiently digested, the non-absorbed food can then become food for harmful bacteria, or just putrefy, in the gut. Either of these leads to toxins being released in the body.
See a doctor and get the stool examination done.
