Hello. For a while I've had a small bump on my chest that would leak a thick cheese like substance every now and then. However, about a week ago, it has swollen into a large golf ball sized bump. It's red and somewhat soft. Do you have idea what this could be?
I would keep a possibility of an infected sebaceous cyst.
If I was the treating doctor I would have advised an empirical oral antibiotic for a week OR 10 days (My choice of oral antibiotic would have been Amoxycillin 500mg in combination with clavulanic acid 125 mg, thrice daily, for a week OR Cephalexin 500ng thrice daily OR Cefadroxil 500mg twice daily, for a week). That would take care of the infection.
An OTC pain killer e.g ibuprofen once or twice daily would help you deal with the pain.
Once the infection resolves, sebaceous cyst can be removed by surgical excision, in which the entire cyst along with the wall is removed, to prevent any recurrence.
