What Does Ascitis Mean?

what does ascites mean in someone who was diagnosed with stage 3 colon cancer 3 1/2 years ago, had a resection, chemo, then about a year later recurence resulting in hysterectomy, then yr later questionable area on live being monitored w/ maintenance chemo treatments, now in hospital recuperating from bowel obstruction resection and got c-diff?
