What Does Atypical Cells In Pap Smear Test Indicate?

I had a complete hysterectomy 5 years ago I am only 41. I had it due to cancer scare but turned out to be benign. I still have my ovaries. I since have been getting pap smears done by my regular Dr not an OBYGN. I just got a call that they found atypical cells. They did not say they tested for HPV or not.I am divorced and had 2 sexual partners in last 5 years. Could this be the cause or could it be just an inflammation of some sort? I do not have my cervix. Im really worried and don t know what to think I have never had a irregular pap in my life.

Hi,

Why are you still getting PAP done 5 years after hysterectomy?
If your hysterectomy was complete and all your previous PAP reports were normal ,there was absolutely no need for you to undergo PAP smears.
Now ,since you have had a Vault smear taken and it is showing atypical cells,Please get a repeat vault smear taken if it is normal ,you need not worry and discontinue the smears.
If it is abnormal I would advice you to consult a gynaecologist who does colposcopy .IF any suspicious lesion is found on colposcopy a biopsy can be taken.

Stop worrying.
Hope this helps.
Kind regards.
