What Does Bowel Problems With Rectal Sores Suggest Post Shoulder Replacement?
My husband is currently taking oxycodone for pain associated with a recent shoulder replacement. Has been experiencing bowel problems the last few days, starting with a hard BM which left his rectal area very sore, and the last 2 days has been leaking very sm. amts of loose BM, without a regular BM. He is 85. No abd discomfort, or fever-- just the sm. amts of leakage.

What Does Bowel Problems With Rectal Sores Suggest Post Shoulder Replacement?
Hello I appreciate your concern for your husband At his age, as such bowel motility reduces and oxycodone further worsens the condition. In my opinion he should take laxative like lactulose or stool softeners like liquid paraffin to avoid constipation and smooth passage of fecal matter. Local anaesthetic ointment like lignocaine can be applied locally for soreness and pain in perianal area during or after bowel movement. He should take dietary fiber, fresh fruits and vegetables in the diet. Encourge him to take pelnty of fluids . Hope this answers your question, please do let me know if you have any more queries, I will be happy to help you. Best wishes
