What Does Bump In Front Of Right Ear Indicate?

Hi, I just noticed a bump about half the size of a dime, right in front of my right ear. And the bump is noticable when I look in the mirror. Eventhough it doesn t hurt, I am very concern. Should I schedule an appointment with my ENT doctor or my GP asap?

Hello,

I can understand your concern. The area you have described for the swelling contains lymph nodes that drain TMJ (Temporomandibular Joint) and ear of that side.

The lymph nodes swells in presence of infection in the draining area or if there is disorder with the lymph node itself.

First, we should try to heal the infection in case it is present. You can take Cefixime 200 mg (Topcef) twice a day for 5 days. It will clear the infection present either in the ear or regarding TMJ.

However, if the antibiotics fail to reduce or eliminate the infection, you should see an ENT specialist for clinical examination and further investigations regarding the diagnosis of the swelling. You might have to go for blood tests and biopsy for the diagnosis and treatment of the swelling.

It does not seem like an emergency that you have to visit a specialist ASAP and according to me, it will not harm you if you wait for 5 days with the antibiotics.

I hope this information helps you. Thank you for choosing HealthcareMagic. I wish you feel better soon.

Best,
Dr. Viraj Shah
