What Does Coughing Up Blood Due To Smoke From Steam Iron Indicate ?
My son blew up my steam iron then delayed leaving house for about an hr. The smoke was clearly chemical & was stinging my eyes in seconds. That was a wk ago last Tuesday, I got cfs/fms so wasn't surprised that I got ill immediately, asthma worsened & many other symptoms exacerbated.2 days ago had awful pain in back across my shoulders & pain in ribs. Then began coughing up blood since yesterday morning, last night pain in ribs was so bad it hurt every breath making it impossible to move & I haven't slept, still. Coughing up blood. What's happening to me?
Thank you for your query. I can understand your concerns. Since you are an asthmatic ,inhalation of chemical fumes had aggravated your asthmatic symptoms. Coughing of blood is most likely due to chemical pneumonitis. get a X-ray chest done . Your pain at back of chest suggest pleural pain. A course of broad spectrum antibiotics ( say amoxycillin-clauvulinic acid combination,if you are not sensitive to amoxycillin otherwise) +/- a course of steroid helps to clear up chemical pneumonitis.
