What Does Cyst:0-1/hpf Indicate In Toddlers With Entamoeba Histolytica?

hi doc, my son 3 months old, was diagnosed with Entamoeba histolytica cyst:0-2/hpf, his pedia prescribed a metronidazole triconex for 7 days. he already taken the medicine and have a stool test again after 7days. the result now is Entamoeba histolytica cyst:0-1/hpf. What does this mean? Do he need to continue taking the metronidazole?

Hi...cyst in the stool sample is a normal finding. Unless trophozoites are there, there is no need to use Metronidazole. Please stop Metronidazole.
