What Does Density In The Chest Indicate?

My husband is 38 years old and was born with a bad heart. He has CHF and 3 heart murmurs. He is sick with bronchitis right now and had a chest x-ray done today. It should fluid in the lungs and around his heart which is also enlarged. I got a call when I got home being told he has a density in his chest and they are setting up a CT scan at the hospital. What can this mean?

Thanks for your question on HCM. Density in lung has many differential diagnosis. So CT scan with contrast is must. The appearance on CT is helpful in deciding weather density is benign or malignant. If density has irreguar margins, devoid of calcification and fibrosis, invading surrounding structures etc than chances of malignancy is more. So CT Thorax is must for differentiation between malignant and benign lesion.
