What Does Ejection Fraction Of 40% In A Heart Patient Indicate?
My mother had congestive heart failure or about a year and a half ago and at that time her ejection fraction was 19 or 20% she s been taking blood pressure pills and water pills since then and now her ejection fraction is up to 40% my mother is 80 years old. Is that a good improvement as an ejection fraction of 40% pretty good for an 80-year-old with congestive heart failure ?
Hello. Welcome to HCM. I have read your question and understand your concerns.
Yes. Improvement in ejection fraction from 20% to 40 % is a good improvement for 80 year old female.
Normal ejection fraction is 60%.So in 80 year old lady 40% ejection fraction will not cause much problem. Just maintain the blood pressure and take all medications regularly.
Avoid excessive water and salt intake. Infection or even straining at stool or in urination can precipitate heart failure. So try to avoid precipitating factors.. Thank you. Have a nice day.
