What Does Elevated Prolactin Level Indicate?
I am 46 yeas old my monthly cycle has been irregular and I have missed two cycles this year last month I found out my prolactin is elevated I go back next week to get blood drawn I have anxiety and anic disorder and I know that the meds can be a caused and so can stress what does it mean if your hormone prolactin is elevated?

Prolactin is a hormone which is secreated by the pituitary gland in the brain.
Its level is elevated in case of growth or tumor of pituitary gland.
Besides tumor of pituitary gland, it can be due to excessive production of other hormones.
Thus, relevant investigations are required to know the cause of elevated prolactin levels.
CT scan of the head is the first investigation followed by other investigations.
Thus consult a physician for clinical assessment, relevant investigations and thus treatment.
Treatment for tumors is surgical and treatment for other disorders is medical.
