Hello and welcome to HCM,
I am Dr Nilajkumar a consultant gynecologist and I will be helping you in your queries.
An endometrial thickness of 1.4 cm means that the endometrium is slightly more thick than normal. The endometrium is the inner lining of the uterus and grows in response to the hormone
estrogen. So any condition of estrogen excess leads to over growth of the endometrium. Also lack of
progesterone leads to un inhibited growth of endometrium.
This growth may lead to fold in the lining and they are called polyps. So they are nothing but excessive endometrium.
Thick endometrium may be seen in
endometrial hyperplasia [common] and
endometrial cancer [rare]. Excessive endometrial growth is commonly seen in the perimenopausal period.
A
hysteroscopy and biopsy or a therapeutic curettage are very helpful. The contents obtained from the surgery are examined under a microscope to determine if it is hyperplasia or cancer.
Treatment then depends upon the cause found in the biopsy.
So please get a biopsy done.
Hope this was helpful.
Feel free to ask any further queries and I will be happy to help.
Thanks for using HCM.
Have a good day.
