Hi,I am Dr. Andrew Rynne (Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
My husband (73) is sleeping often during the day, a morng nap, afternoon nap, at times evening nap after dinner. He is overweight as well and is on several blood pressure meds. He says he is dizzy upon standing. Should I suggest our doc modify his meds and what diet should I put him on? YYYY@YYYY
Hi, Thanks for posting in HCM. I understand your concern. Some of the blood pressure medication could cause dizziness or dizziness could be also due to fluctuating blood pressure. Hence, it is better for your husband to get his blood pressure checked regularly. Low salt diet is what is recommended for persons with high blood pressure. Since you are starting that he is obese, he should go for regular morning and evening walks for 30 to 40 minutes. Also, he should do moderate exercise to reduce weight and be physically fit. Since lethargy and sleepiness could be caused due to hypothyroidism, it would be ideal for him to get his blood checked for thyroid hormone levels. Kindly consult Physician with the report for further evaluation and appropriate management. Hope the information provided helps. All the best.
