What Does Green Phlegm Indicate?

I get these coughing spells every day and coughing leaves this foul taste in my mouth. Most of the time when I cough I cough up this foaming stuff. It s clear but sometimes it has little specks in the foam. This has been going on for a long while. Just now I coughed up some green stuff. Like as big as tip of pinky finger. Maybe a little smaller.

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

Coughing of green phlegm may be due to opportunistic infections with bacteria like pseudomonas or klebsiella or pneumococci etc. Until examination is done it is difficult to say what it is. Use water vapour inhalation and salt water gargling thrice a day. Avoid cool drinks and freeze water. Get chest x-ray and blood investigation to be done. Please consult your ENT specialist/physician and get treated accordingly.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
