i did a urine/uretha swab culture test and the result is as follows appearance = Amber Color = Clear PH = 6.0 sp gravity = 1.023 Protein = Trace Urobil = + Leucocytes = + Pus cells/ Hpf = 0-2hpf Epithelial Cells= + Others = nil yielded profuse growth of staphylococcus spp after 24hrs at 37oC and streptococcus pnuemoniae please i need to know what these things mean?
Hello and welcome to HCM. Your concern is understandable. It would be good to know, why you did this test, and your age. A swab culture showing staphlyococcus and streptococcus, usually is due to contamination from the skin area, while taking the specimen. It would be best, if you could repeat an urine culture, with a mid-stream urine specimen, which is most accurate. Staphylococcus may be seen in the urine, in which case, you will need to take culture specific antibiotics treatment. Urine for bile salts and bile pigments, should be done.
