What Does High Levels Of CRP In New Born Baby Mean?

My sister has just given birth to a baby 7 pound 12. The labour was traumatic as her waters broke and she was left for 36 hours until delivering the baby with forceps and vontous. The baby is now 3 days old and still in hospital. They are keeping her in for another 5 days because 'the infection marker in her blood has gone up - it is called crp'. what does this mean?

Hi...Thank you for consulting in Health Care magic.

CRP means it is a marker of infection and high CRP could be due to labor stress too. Blood cultures are the gold standard for diagnosing infections. Rather than the level of CRP the condition of the baby the arousability the feeding pattern and cry are more important in this age group.
