I just noticed a small hole on the otherside of where I had my Bartholin gland removed. it is on the same side as where I had the surgery but on the other side of the lip. I had the surgery done in April and I m just now seeing this small hole and it was not there before. the whole is not very big but it is a noticeable small hole. any ideas?
Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.
Bartholin gland surgery can be done two ways depending on the condition and recurrence, these are marsupialization and total excision of gland. In marsupialization usually the inner layer of the gland is stitched to outer layer, so that the cavity will remain open. It helps in draining of collected material and also prevents recurrence. After few days the opening may remain as small hole. So according to your description, the hole you mentioned could be due to marsupialization. If you are having any problem with this, please consult your gynecologist and get examined.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
