What Does Increased Cardiothoracic Diameter Indicated During Pregnancy?

Hi! I am supposed to be on my 26 weeks pregnancy now but the average ultrasonic age says its just 21 weeks. Other than that, I was just told that my baby s cardiothoracic diameter is increased and to consider cardiomegaly . I can t understand all these medical terms. Could somebody help me? What are the chances of my baby?

hello ma'am and welcome.

From the ultrasound examination, your baby's age does not correspond with the gestational age. This could be due to mild growth retardation, which at this stage is nothing too serious to worry about and can change (e.g. steroids can be given at a later stage to help).

The cardiomegaly indicates an enlargement in your baby's heart size, and this also can resolve with this and should be monitored. In my opinion there is nothing serious at this point to worry about, and things should settle down soon, your baby has good chances of being normal and healthy.

Best wishes.
