Hi,I am Dr. Subhankar Chakraborty (Gastroenterologist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
What Does Inflamed Colon Post Hernia Repair Indicate?
I had a hernia repair 6 weeks ago because the bowel was incarcerated. I ran a fever of 103 F and returned to the ER for another CT scan which revealed I had an inflamed colon. The surgeon told me it was the part of the colon that was incarcerated and sent me home. Does this sound normal?
Hi, Yes it sounds normal because bowel loop might come out from peritoneum as a herial sac and if this neck of sac become constricted then the blood supply to this bowel loop would be hampered leading to infalmmaation of colon. See, it would be very difficult to understand what I said above because it is impossible to translate it into simple or layman language. Your surgeon is absolutely right in this regard. You can take advise further if your problem persists. Thanks
