What Does Intermittent Pain In The Lower Abdomen Along With Blood And Mucus Discharge Indicate?

Not sure if I have a bowel obstruction or something but pain in lower abdomen for 3 days that comes an goes. Some gas, drank prune juice thinking that would get things moving, to no avail. Tonight found some blood with clear mucus when I wiped, just knew something was there after passing gas. Is this something that I should go to the ER at hospital to have checked.

Hi,

As per your clinical history, please follow like this:

1) Do a clinical examination by your Doctor [gastroenterologist] and you need few investigations to confirm it [Capsule endoscopy, Colonoscopy, and MRI scan].

2) Discuss with your Doctor about prescription medicine like [Ciprofloxacin and metronidazole].

3) Do take vitamin B 12 and calcium regularly and take other prescribed medicines after investigation reports only.

Do follow lifestyle modifications like this-

1) Try to limit dairy products and use an enzyme product such as [Lactaid].

2) Try low-fat foods like butter, margarine, cream sauces and fried foods.

3) Try to limit fiber, such as fresh fruits and vegetables and whole grains and avoid other foods like spicy foods, alcohol, and caffeine, etcetera.

4) Eat small meals. Take five or six small meals a day rather than two or three larger ones.

5) Try to drink plenty of fluids daily. Water is best. Alcohol and beverages that contain caffeine stimulate your intestines and can make diarrhea worse, while carbonated drinks frequently produce gas.

6) Try to avoid smoking and make a plan to reduce stress.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Uday Nath Sahoo
