Hello,

It can be a sign of PCOS (polycystic ovarian syndrome). You can go for an ultrasound to confirm the diagnosis. PCOS can be associated with hypothyroidism which will worsen the symptoms and lead to weight gain. You can go for a thyroid function test (TFT) to assess the functional status of the thyroid. Consult a gynaecologist and he will direct you accordingly. Once the diagnosis is confirmed, hormonal pills and drugs like metformin will be the treatment of choice.

Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Shinas Hussain, General & Family Physician
