What Does It Mean If Your Period Lasts Longer Than Usual?
I am 51 years old and my last period was in November. All of a sudden I get my period last week and the menstrual flow was more than I have ever had and the menstrual cramps were worse than ever in my life. One week and a half later I am still bleeding some. Why is this happening?
Usually menopause is attained between 45 - 55 years of age, average being 47 years. You are complaining of excess bleeding with cramps after a long gap. It shows your menopausal age sets in. So bleeding now needed to examined by a gynaecologist to rule out the underlying disease if any. Many conditions like tissue growth, cancer, thinning & thickening of vaginal lining, medications etc can result in such breakthrough bleeding. I advice you to: - Do Transvaginal USG & endometrial biopsy at the earliest for further evaluation - PAP smear & breast examination. - Antispasmodics to get relieved of cramps - calcium & vitamin supplements - Nutritious diet rich in proteins.
