What Does It Mean To Have High Parathyroid Hormones And Low Vitamin D?
Hi, I am a 38 year old female, 160cm tall and 83kilo. My doctor prescribed duramine to me to loose weight. However I forgot to mention that my specialist found I have high parathyroid hormones with normal calcium and low vitamin D. I am taking vitamin D daily for 6 weeks to see if it lowers my parathyroid hormone levels , will Duramine interfere with this hormone as I have to repeat blood test in a few weeks but I am desperate to start taking duramine to loosevweight. Please help Monica
Hello, Thank you for asking on HCM! Duromine is a psycho-stimulant drug similar to amphetamine that suppresses the appetite and helps to loose weight. Until now there is no data that it can interfere with calcium metabolism and PTH level. When a low level of Vit D is confirmed, parathormone is expected to be high due to feed back mechanism. If the Vit D is corrected and the PTH level still remains high, than other test should be done. I would suggest not to start Duromine until you have a proper diagnosis of high PTH level.
