What Does It Mean When The Toes Are Curled Up?

I am 72 years old. Female. Have some arthritis in left knee but no major health problems. In last year I have noticed the toes on my left foot are starting to draw up especially the one next to big toe. No pain, but sometimes numbness & cramping in my foot. What ideas do you have as to diagnosis?

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

You may be suffering from cross over toes which may be due to joint capsulitis or weakness of the muscle support joint or flat foot arthritis if the joint etc. Until examination is done it is difficult to say what it. If it early stage splinting and physiotherapy may helpful. In case of late stage need surgery. Please consult your orthopedics he will examine and treat you accordingly.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
