What Does Large Bump On The Back Of Tongue Imply?

Hi Dr. Topiwala, My son went to the dentist today and the dentist said the large bump on the back of his tongue was his thyroid. Have you ever heard of anything like that? I can t find any information that ones thyroid can be visible on ones tongue.

hellooo..read thru ur query...there is something called as lingual thyroid which has happened in the develpoment stage of the child...usually in others thyroid gland moves down after formation but in this cases it get stuck after formation in between the tongue(tongue develps from two parts).but nothing to be worried..it happens commonly these days...it can be removed by a small surgery...so in my opinion u should meet an ent surgeon and get it treated based on the clinical situation..hope ur benefitted something from this reply..have a healthy day!!
