What Does Light Vaginal Spotting During Pregnancy Indicate?
hi! my wife is pregnant and had a light vaginal spotting since 6th of this month soon after discovering that she is pregnant. Doctor prescribed Duphaston 10mg BD for 2 weeks. Is this spotting a sign of misscarriage and what about the medicine that doctor prescribed?. Thank You
Any amount of vaginal bleeding is not a good sign and may suggest risk to the pregnancy. This spotting or bleeding may be due to partial separation of the implanting embryo. This can happen due to or lead to low progesterone hormone.
Progesterone is required for stabilizing the pregnancy and continuation up to term. Since you started spotting, presuming that there is progesterone deficiency, you have been prescribed Duphaston which is a Progesterone preparation. This will increase the progesterone levels in your body and will help your pregnancy get stabilized.
May be, it will be continued throughout the pregnancy or it will be discontinued after few weeks depending upon the progress of your pregnancy.
Meanwhile, take bed rest till the pregnancy is well stabilized. Start Folic acid tablets. Avoid any strenuous work throughout the pregnancy.
Wish you the best of luck.
