What Does Low Blood Sugar Level In A Diabetic Patient Indicate?

Hi My father is a diabetic patient since last 30 years
He was taking insulin and still was recording high blood sugar around 300
Now doctor has advised him below drugs since last two months
Oglinorm m0.3 1-1-1
Gemer p2 1-0-0 (BF)
Fibator 10 mg 0-0-1
Insulin Injection 14mg - 0 - 14 mg
Since then he is experiencing very low blood sugar like 40 to 50 and he was advised to reduce the insulin from 14 to 12 and then to 10 and now he is taking 8 units only
Still he is having blood sugar level of 50 only and also experiencing numbness in his tongue

Diabetologist 's  Response
hi, I had gone through your query and understood your concerns.

For the majority of healthy individuals, normal blood sugar levels are as follows:

Normal blood glucose level in humans is about 4 mM (4 mmol/L or 72 mg/dL)
When operating normally the body restores blood sugar levels to a range of 4.4 to 6.1 mmol/L (82 to 110 mg/dL)
Shortly after a meal the blood glucose level may rise temporarily up to 7.8 mmol/L (140 mg/dL)

The blood sugars you have mentioned are lower to normal. Usually in such a case, If were his treating doctor, I would reduce any one drug among them. You can discuss this with the treating doctor and get it done. The low blood sugars mostly are because of higher dosage of medication.

Hope this guides you. For any other queries you can write to us. we will be happy to help you. Thank you.
