My son's baby - 24 hours old had a irregular heartbeat that dropped as low as 40 bpm - after a night in the neonatal unit and an echo cardio gram showed nothing they were able to take him home. What kind of follow up should occur and can this cause death
Hi irregular heart beat in a new born baby can be because of any arrythmia. An arrhythmia is an abnormal heart rhythm, we have to rule out the nature of the arrythmuia as many arrythmias are life threatining in nature.hence a 24 hour holter should be attached to the kid in a few days to rule out the nature of irregular heart beat. normal 2 d echo means that kid does not have any ciongenital abnormality in heart like asd vsd , however if palpitation continued , then electrophysiological studies could also be recommended
