Hi,I am Dr. Gopal Goel (Orthopaedic Surgeon). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
What Does Lump On The Arch Of Foot With Normal X-ray Post Injury Indicate?
A few weeks ago twisted my foot pretty badly but X-rays confirmed it wasn t broken, but I was told there was some soft tissue damage to my foot. Now a few weeks later the brushing hasn t decreased, nor has the pain. It isn t my ankle, but there is a pretty significant lump on the bone in the arch of my foot as well as swelling. When ever I try to ice it my foot falls asleep (after like 1 minute). Walking is pretty rough and being a competitive gymnast this has been a train wreck. Help ?

Orthopaedic Surgeon, Joint Replacement, Dr. Saurabh Gupta's Response
Hello, Thanks for your query. The large lump is likely to be due to a hematoma formation in the area. Since the bony injuries have been ruled out, a soft tissue injury is likely. You need to avoid massaging the area and take a mild pain killer for relief. Do a cold compress on the area of injury. The pain and swelling might take over a week to subside. In case there is an acute pain and a sudden increase in swelling then consult your physician for a direct examination to rule out any infection in the area.
I do hope that you have found something helpful and I will be glad to answer any further query. Take care
