What Does Pink Mucus Discharge After Coughing Indicate?

I have bronchitis. Nonsmoker, no asthma or allergies. Started zpac today and inhaler four times a day. Xray shows no pneumonia. I violently cough throughout day more at night. Taking mucinex for cough production. Tonight i coughed up a small pink gel like and a small stick like substance. Could that come from esaphagus or cilia?

Pulmonologist 's  Response
thanks for asking your question
I completely understand your question
cough with pink expectoration can be due to many reasons.
bacterial infection, streaking of sputum with blood that occurs in cases of tb, serratia infections, pneumonia.
you can consult a pulmonologist whi can request for a chest xray and sputum for afb, sputum for pyogenic culture and senstivity.
by these tests infection and causitive agent for infection can be ruled out.
pulmonologist can start over with some antibiotics to prevent secondary infection.
thanks/ regards
