What Does Puffiness And Redness In The Eyes Indicate?
My daughter, who is 21, woke up over the weekend with a red bloodshot eye and a puffy eyelid and even a little puffy below the eye. She went to the minute clinic thinking it may be pink eye and they gave her drops. They eye felt better and redness and puffiness was gone within 24 hours. Then in the last day or so she has had a sharp pain that shoots in her eye on the right side of just one eye. It goes away but does happen throughout the day several times. She says her sight is not affected at all right now. I had her make an appointment at the eye doctor but am just wondering if she should be doing anything in the meantime.
The redness and puffiness of eye upon waking up could be due to eye rubbing subconsciously during sleep. Most likely some dust or foreign body entered in the eye. So that particular episode could be due to some allegic reaction. The subsequent shooting pain in the eye on and off indicates dry eyes. She might be having ongoing allergic eye reaction that interrupt the tearfilm integrity. Meantime while awaiting for eye appointmenr, i wouls suggest you to get your daugther some artificial tears preferably preservative free. Hope my answer helps, have a nice day.
