What Does "abnormal Hemoglobin Pattern" Mean?

Hi, may I answer your health queries right now ? Please type your query here...hi i'm anusha.i'm 14 weeks pregnant and i'd done a blood test and i've got the result today and my midwife said i've got an abnormal haemoglobin pattern.i just wanted to know what this mean?

Welcome to H.C.M. I am Dr Krishna Dubey.
Hemoglobin, the oxygen-carrying molecule , comes in some normal and some abnormal. Normal hemoglobin carries and releases oxygen properly , while abnormal hemoglobin doesn't.
Abnormal pattern of hemoglobin suggest Hemoglobinopathy such as sickle cell disease and thalassemia.
My dear friend , i suggest you to follow your doctor to rule out these disorders in your child so that kids with these disorders can be diagnosed, monitored, and treated early to prevent potentially life-threatening complications.
