What Does Random Sugar Level Of 167 Imply?

I havent eaten much all day. Only a S more about an hour ago and about 2 table spoons of ice cream 4 or 5 miutes ago. I just checked my sugar and it read 167. I immediatly checked it on the other hand and got 147. I am 23 active and maybe 5 5 135lbs. Why is my sugar so high? Shouldn t it not go above about 120?

Hi
I have read your query.
I think I can help you with the query.

First and foremost, let me tell you, that no self respecting diabetician will comment of random blood sugars. As mentioned in your own query, they are too unreliable.

As for the blood sugar levels, the level of 120 is probably fasting blood sugars that you are talking about. Normal fasting blood glucose levels are up to 100. A person is supposed to be diabetic if the blood sugar is greater than 126. In between is a stage called Impaired Fasting Glucose.

To make sure that you are not diabetic, one would suggest testing a FBS, PPBS, HbA1C. Please let us know the reports for further advise.

Hope that clears your doubts. Best of luck,
Dr Mittal
