What Does Redness And Soreness Of Bellybutton Post Keyhole Surgery?
Hi,just had keyhole surgery and got my stitches from my belly button removed today but its still sore and bit red,,what does this mean? i have more stitches that look like skin colour just wondering if they are dissolvable? have black ones in private region
Hi. Thanks for your query. Noted your history of key-hole surgery and got the stitches removed. The wound in the belly button looks red and sore. This is due to the tough skin in the belly button and hence heals differently This is just a scar formation with some inflammation. It is possible that there may be mild infection or inflammation that a local ointment will take care of. Apply liquid povidone iodine locally 2 to 3 times a day and it will be fine. If the Doctor or nurse feels so she will add a small course of an antibiotic and anti-inflammatory medicines and you should be fine. The black stitches at the private origin may be Ethilone or black silk as the healing has to be confirmed and the stitches need to be kept till the wound is healed hence non-absorbable stitches are put in. Whereas the abdominal part , one can put in absorbable stitches.
