What Does Small Dime Sized Lump Under Bellybutton During Pregnancy Indicate?
I am 21 weeks and 5 days pregnant. I ve noticed when I m sitting in a chair or standing up and bend over right below my belly button it felt hard and was uncomfortable. I m assuming it s just my stomach getting harder as it stretches. Then today I noticed a small dime size lump under my bellybutton. It s hurts if pushed on and still when bending over.Is this normal?
I understand your concern and will do everything that I can to answer your question. Congratulations and I hope you enjoy the rest of your pregnancy. From what you are describing, you may have an umbilical hernia or a related condition called diastasis. As the baby gets bigger, the abdominal wall muscles stretch to give the pregnancy more room. Sometimes they stretch so much a small hernia develops. It can be uncomfortable and annoying but is completely harmless for you and for the baby. Usually it gets much better as soon as the baby is born. It is very rare that it needs to be repaired during the pregnancy. If it continues to bother you after the baby is born, the repair is a straightforward surgery with only a brief recovery. Let your doctor or midwife take a look at it but I expect they will say it is nothing to work about. In the mean time try the following: - avoid lifting more than 20 pounds (two gallons of milk or so) - try an abdominal binder - you can find these at most pharmacies and they provide relief to lots of women.
I hope that helped and best of luck
