What Does Soreness In The Penis Indicate?

my penis is sore at times. it started about a week ago. It is a mild pain and only when I turn over or sit down. I am happily married man and I am 60 years old. No problems going to the bathroom or anything and there is no burning or anything like that and no drainage of any kind.

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

Penile pain can affect the base, shaft, or head of the penis. It can also affect the foreskin. An itching, burning, or throbbing sensation may accompany the pain. Penile pain can be a result of an accident or disease, and it can affect males of any age. The pain can vary depending on what underlying condition or disease is causing it. If you have an injury, the pain may be severe and occur suddenly. If you have a disease or condition, the pain may be mild and may gradually get worse. I will tell you few Possible Causes of Pain in the Penis:

1. Balanitis: is an infection of the foreskin and the head of the penis. It usually affects men and boys who don’t wash under the foreskin regularly or who haven’t been circumcised, although those who have been circumcised can also get it. It also can happen if you have a yeast infection, a sexually transmitted infection (STI), or an allergy to soaps, perfumes, or other products.
2. Sexually transmitted infections: Infection with an STI can cause penile pain. STIs that cause pain include:

i. chlamydia
ii. gonorrhea
iii. genital herpes
iv. syphilis

3. UTI: A urinary tract infection (UTI) is more common in women, but it can also happen in men. A UTI happens when bacteria invade and infect your urinary tract. An infection might happen if you:

i. are uncircumcised
ii. have a weakened immune system
iii. have a problem or blockage in your urinary tract
iv. have sex with someone who has an infection
v. have anal sex
vi. have an enlarged prostate

4. Penile cancer is another cause of pain in the penis, although it’s uncommon. Certain factors increase your chances of getting cancer, including:
i. smoking
ii. not being circumcised
iii. having a human papillomavirus infection
iv. not cleaning under your foreskin if you’re uncircumcised
v. being treated for psoriasis.

I suggest you to meet your doctor who will do clinical examination and do required tests to arrive at a proper diagnosis.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
